If You Stay Blog Tour: Guest Post, Excerpt & Giveaway!

Welcome to Hackaroo's stop on the If You Stay by Courtney Cole Blog Tour!
I have a guest post and an excerpt! But first, check out the book:

24-year old Pax Tate is an asshole.

Seriously.

He’s a tattooed, rock-hard bad-boy with a bad attitude to match.

But he’s got his reasons.

His mother died when Pax was seven, leaving a hole in his heart filled with guilt although he doesn’t understand why. What he does know is that he and his dad are left alone and with more issues than they can count.

As Pax grew up, he tried to be the kid his father always wanted; the perfect golden boy, but it didn’t work. His dad couldn’t overcome his grief long enough to notice and Pax couldn’t keep up the impossible perfect façade.

So he slipped far, far from it.

Now, he uses drugs and women to cope with the ugliness, the black void that he doesn’t want to deal with. If he pretends that the emptiness isn’t there, then it isn’t, right?

Wrong.

And it’s never more apparent than when he meets Mila.

Sweet, beautiful Mila Hill is the fresh air to his hardened frown, the beauty to his ugly heart. He doesn’t know how to not hurt her, but he quickly realizes that he’s got to figure it out because he needs her to breathe.

When memories of his mother’s death resurface from where he’s repressed them for so long, Mila is there to catch him when the guilt starts making sense. Mila is the one…the one who can save him from his broken troubled heart; from his issues, from the emptiness.

But only if he can stop being an asshole long enough to allow it.

He knows that. And he’s working on it.

But is that enough to make her stay?

**Warning -Contains sex and violence**

Excerpt:

(Mila’s POV)
“I don’t know why I’m here,” he admits softly, and his voice is so close to my neck.  “Because I can’t stop thinking about you, I guess.  And because I’ll never get that horrified expression on your face out of my head.  I’m sorry to have put it there.  Just know that she doesn’t mean anything to me.  She was persistent and I didn’t say no.  It was a habit.  I’m sorry.”
My heart hammers hard in my chest.  I don’t know what to say.  I know that I should tell him to get far away from me, but my heart is a traitor and wants him here. My heart must have issues. But I can’t say that.

“You don’t even know me,” I tell him instead, finally turning around to look at him, pulling my hand away as I do.  I stare up into his hazel eyes and find an expression there that I haven’t yet seen. Trepidation.  “Why would you apologize to someone that you barely even know? You don’t owe me anything.”
He shrugs and his movement stirs his masculine scent. I inhale it and fight the urge to close my eyes so that I can better enjoy the smell.
“I don’t know.  All I know is that ever since I met you, I’ve wanted to know you.  That’s why I’ve been coming into town this week to see you.  Something about you makes me think that I can be better, maybe even get my shit straight.  I haven’t felt that way in a very long time. And I feel like I do owe you something.”
Hell.  His words strike a chord in me and I swallow hard.  His tone is hesitant, soft.  And it melts my heart.  I can’t help it.  Sometimes, there is such a broken look in his eyes.  And deep down, I just want to fix it.
“Why?” I ask, my gaze firmly locked with his.  He shakes his head.
“I don’t know. You just seem so good, so wholesome.  It draws me to you.  I can’t explain it.”
I laugh now, thoroughly amused.
I gesture toward my painting.  “Does that seem good and wholesome to you?”
We both study the angry black and gray canvas.  It looks like something that someone in a Psych ward might have painted.  Pax finally smiles.
“Well, then, Red, it looks like you’ve got a dark side.  But the difference between you and me is that you channel yours in a healthy way.  I don’t.”
I stare at him, trying to decide what to say, how honest to be.  But this moment seems like a good time for honesty, so I don’t hesitate.
“I don’t know if it’s all that healthy that I’m attracted to you,” I admit finally.  “I’ve never been attracted to a bad boy before.”
He is so close to me that his proximity is a bit intoxicating.  I feel almost dizzy from it as I stare up at him, waiting for his response.  It also seems as though I can feel the danger emanating from him…it’s charged, electrical, fascinating.
Pax thinks on it for a moment, his jaw covered in day-old stubble.
“Well, I’ve never wanted to be good before, so I guess it’s a first for both of us.”

If you aren't sold yet, check out my REVIEW on this awesome book!!!
For my stop, I also have a guest post. I asked Courtney how did Pax come to be? He's such a raw character and so unlike anybody else I've read. Where did this come from? Here is what she said:
Someone close to me struggled with drugs. He wasn’t an addict, but I knew that if he didn’t change his ways, he’d find himself on a tragic, dark path.  I didn’t want that for him and luckily, he didn’t want that for himself.

It made me think though… how many people out there find themselves in that place?  That place where they know that either something will need to change or they will lose everything that they know.  I figure there must be quite a lot of people out there in that place.  And that’s when I realized that Pax’s story needed to be told.

I think his story is important for that reason… just to show that important change can be done.  It’s hard, it’s not fun, but it’s necessary.  Pax did it, so anyone can do it.   Stories like this are important because sometimes, people who are in this kind of situation just need some encouragement. They need to know that they can do it.  And they can.

About Courtney:

Courtney Cole is a novelist who would eat mythology for breakfast if she could. She has a degree in Business, but has since discovered that corporate America is not nearly as fun to live in as fictional worlds. She loves chocolate and roller coasters and hates waiting and rude people.

Courtney lives in quiet suburbia, close to Lake Michigan, with her real-life Prince Charming, her ornery kids (there is a small chance that they get their orneriness from their mother) and a small domestic zoo.

Cover Reveal: Twisted Perfection by Abbi Glines

Today I have a cover reveal I am very honored to take a part in. Abbi Glines has a new book coming out and I'm really excited about it since I'm a big fan of Abbi's.  She's fantastic.
Without much further ado, here it is:
Blurb:Life outside of her house was a new experience for Della Sloane.  The dark secrets of her past weren’t something she ever intended to share with anyone. They would never understand. No one would ever get close enough to find out. Besides there was always a chance she’d go crazy sooner than they expected… Woods Kerrington had never been one to be attracted to fragile females. They seemed like too much work. He wasn’t in it for the work just the pleasure. A night full of naughty fun had been exactly what was on his mind when he’d laid eyes on the hot little number that didn’t know how to pump gas and needed some help. What he didn’t know was she was as fragile as they came. The carefree girl who spoke her mind and didn’t care what the world thought of her was more breakable than he could ever imagine…

Twisted Perfection
by Abbi Glines
Scheduled to release on April 23, 2013
Cover designed by Okay Creations.

About Abbi:
Abbi Glines was born in Birmingham, Alabama. She grew up in the small town of Sumiton, Alabama where she left the summer she turned eighteen. She didn’t get far… she chased her high school sweetheart down to the coast and she’s been there every since.
Abbi now lives in the quaint southern town of Fairhope, Alabama with her three children and husband Keith (the high school sweetheart she chased after). Her life is never dull and Keith always makes sure there is another “experience” for them to explore.
Books published by Abbi include The Vincent Boys and the USA TODAY bestseller The Vincent Brothers, Breathe, Because of Low, the USA TODAY bestsellers While It Lasts and Just For Now, The Existence Trilogy that includes the USA Today Bestseller Ceaseless, andThe New York Times bestseller and Wall Street Journal bestseller Fallen Too Far. Currently she is working on Never Too Far, the sequel to Fallen too Far.
When Abbi isn’t locked away in her office typing away she is hauling her kids to and from their many social activities. You could say her second job is the Glines Kids personal chauffeur. It’s a rather illustrious job.

Review: Sins & Needles by Karina Halle

Review: Sins & Needles by Karina Halle

Goodreads Description:
Ellie Watt is used to starting over. The daughter of a grifting team, Ellie spent her childhood being used as a pawn in her parents' latest scam. Now she’s much older, wiser and ready to give her con artist life a rest. But returning to the dry desert town of Palm Valley, California means one more temptation than she bargained for – Camden McQueen. Once known as the high school weirdo, Camden is bigger and badder than the boy he used to be and a talented tattoo artist with his own thriving business. Ellie’s counting on Camden still being in love with her but what she’s not counting on is how easily unrequited love can turn into obsession over time. When Camden discovers Ellie’s plan to con him, he makes her a deal she doesn’t dare refuse, but her freedom comes with a price and it’s one that takes both Ellie and Camden down a dangerous road.

**The Artists Trilogy is a dark and sexy contemporary ride about three flawed individuals caught in a world where it's so easy to justify the bad things we do. This is a pure adult read (Not YA or NA)

This is the 1st book in the trilogy. It is followed by the novella On Every Street (released in March 2013) and the sequel Shooting Scars (released in May 2013). The third and final book in the series will also be released in 2013.***

What did I think?
Well I fell in love with Halle's writing when I first read Darkhouse. She hasn't let me down since. I am totally addicted to her Experiment In Terror series and amd such a hardcore fan, I knew this one would kick my ass.

It totally kicked my ass lol. This is a completely different world that Halle takes you to. I loved every second of it. This book is really non stop and had my heart racing so many times it was like I was there. Karina Halle has the innate ability to captivate and entrance with her world building and her fabulous writing. She always creates these fantastic worlds with these memorable characters that you love even though they truly are damaged goods.

I always love Halle's characters because they are so damaged. I love the damage and the darkness because....really....don't we all have a little bit of that in all of us? That's what makes here characters so memorable and all of them are my favorites.

I'll start off with Ellie. Ellie is very complex and pretty hardcore. I've never read a character that has such baggage with her. Even though she had all that baggage and extra darkness with her, you still feel for her. Yes, she is a bad girl but for the most part she has best interest at heart. Kind of ;-)

Camden....Oh sweet Jesus Camden... What can I say here that can do him justice? I have no idea really. He is one of those epic characters that just....stick with you. Camden is also pretty messed up. I loved him because of it. But he's also a pretty big bad ass. But damn if he doesn't say the sweetest things. Tall, dark, sexy and effed up. Such a fantastical combination!

Now for the story....holy crap what a wild ride! The party just does. not. stop. I had such a hard time putting this down. Seriously. Every page I turned, I just wanted to keep going and not stop. This story is so unlike anything  I've ever read. It's gritty, dark, sexy and so beautiful all in one. There really aren't enough words to express how much I truly adored this book. It has gone down as one of my all-time favorites. I cannot wait to read the next in the series.

I don't want to give too much away but let me just say that if you are looking for an action-packed, suspenseful, sexy book, then pick this up. I will warn you though, Karina has been known to leave with a cliffhanger ;-)

Favorite Quote/Scene:
Camden continued looking at her with fervent intesity. It started to make her a little bit uncomforatble and she wiped her hands on her jeans. "You've never shown me your scars." The girl swallowed hard. "And I'm not about to." "Can it be so bad?" he whispered. "How can someone as pretty as you have anything that would make her less?"

I'm telling you....pick this up NOW!!   AMAZON|BARNES & NOBLE

What did I think?
I've already stated that I love Courtney Cole's writing and I truly do. But up until now, I've only read her YA novels. This was a whole new monster and I was really excited to read it. The story sounded interesting and I was already a fan.
Needless to say I was so not disappointed. I have to mention that I think this is one of Cole's best novels to date. I fell in love with it. Every line, every chapter had me entranced.
It starts off gritty and does not let up. Right off the bat, you get a nice b**** slap to wake you up to see the world Pax lives in. I love books that get down to the nitty gritty and Cole spares nothing in this book. Nothing. The characters, the story, everything swept me away.
Pax....oh sweet damage Pax. What can I say? He is so hot and lost and messed up. I loved him! As the blurb says, Pax is an a**hole but truly he isn't. Only he thinks the worst of himself. Pax has had a rough go of life and finds solstice in the only way he knows how.....drugs, alochol, and women. After he lost his mother, things just went spiraling out of control for him. But under all the rawness, there is a tender man who just wants someone to love him.
Mila is such a sweet girl. I was afraid she was going to be too naive for Pax, but she proved me wrong time and time again. Mila is a woman who knows what she wants and doesn't like to play games. She knows what she's doing and what she wants out of life. Being in charge is always sexy and I think that's what Pax seess at first. Then he just sees Mila and is captivated.
When Pax and Mila meet, it's not on the best of terms but there still is a spark....a connection that cannot be ignored. Even though they start off on a rocky start and problems happen, through it all, they stay. It's just  a simple word....stay. And yet, it means so much throughout this entire novel.
Well done Cole. I will be reading this book over and over and I see it as one of my favorites for 2013.

Hidden Gates Blog Tour Stop

Welcome to Hackaroo's stop on the Hidden Gates Blog Tour hosted by IMR Blog Tours!
My good friend Tabby over at IMR Tours asked me if I would like to be a part of this tour and I jumped at the chance. Here is a little bit about the book itself:
BOOK INFO:
Hidden Gates (P.J. Stone Trilogy #1)
by D.T. Dyllin
Publish Date: eBook Jan 24 - Paperback 2/28
Publisher: Dragonfairy Press

BLURB:
For P.J. Stone, being a “Seer” who has never seen anything is less than fun. And P.J. isn’t known for her patience.

To make matters worse, she must choose a suitable mate to continue the Seer bloodline. Duty always comes before her heart…at least that’s what her parents taught her. When she finds herself wanting someone who is considered off-limits, P.J. is forced to question everything she believes.

As if navigating her love life isn’t complicated enough, P.J. finally receives a vision—of a threat to her world that only she can perceive. But no one will believe a fledgling Seer’s warnings. With nowhere else to turn, she may decide to trust a stranger with her life, her world, and maybe even her heart.

What did I think?
Well, I will be honest and say that once I read the blurb I was a bit wary because I am not usually into fantasy/sci-fi books. I'm more of a paranormal romance or YA kinda gal.

But from the first chapter to the last, I was intrigued. This book is pretty addicting. Although I was a little confused when the author was explaining things in the beginning, it didn't take me long to catch on. I loved the world that Dyllin creates.

Like I said, I'm not much of a fantasy reader but Dyllin took this world and tweaked it to make a wonderful idea of where I wouldn't mind being in. I liked the whole idea behind the politics and the relationships in here.

Peej was a fun character to read. She did have her moments of annoyance where, as a tpical teenager, tantrums come into play. But overall I admired her for her compassion to do the right thing and take care of those she loves.

Bryn *le sigh* is a gorgeous guy. I will admit that I fell in love with him before Peej did. ;-) He had the boy next door complex with a hint of some bad boy in him. Which is the perfect combo to me. Plus, I'm always a sucker for a tall, black haired, blue-eyed guy.

The love triangle....errr....square maybe? was pretty complex and I felt bad for poor Peej. All she wanted was to get noticed and she got her wish ten fold. Add that with all the drama of trying to save the world, well, you have a complex, intriguing wild ride.

Overall I thought the book was pretty good and I'll pick up her next book in the series because I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and this world.

About the author:
AUTHOR INFO:
Cynical-Optimist. Chocolateholic. Sarcasm Addict. Paranormal Believer. Self-Imposed Insomniac. Sci-Fi Geek. Animal Lover. Writer . . . are just a few words to describe D.T. Dyllin. Shooting Scars by Karina Halle Cover Reveal

Today I have the great honor of revealing the cover of one my most favorite authors' books.
Karina Halle has a new series called The Artist Trilogy that just started and this is the second installment.
First of all, here is the bad-ass cover:

Shooting Scars by Karina Halle (The Artists Trilogy #2)--Publication date: May, 2013 by Metal Blonde Books
A second chance at first love.

There are a few things worth risking everything for - even your life. For Camden McQueen, this is one of them.

Shooting Scars is the second book in The Artists Trilogy and is told from the dual POV of Camden and Ellie.

Now I just recently read Sins & Needles (review to come!) and fell in love with it. Halle really has a way with words and character building. Her books are one of a kind and I highly suggest you sweep the first book up ASAP.

The daughter of a Norwegian Viking and a Finnish Moomin, Karina Halle grew up in Vancouver, Canada with trolls and eternal darkness on the brain. This soon turned into a love of all things that go bump in the night and a rather sadistic appreciation for freaking people out. Like many of the flawed characters she writes, Karina never knew where to find herself and has dabbled in   acting, make-up artistry, film production, screenwriting, photography, travel writing and music journalism. She eventually found herself in the pages of the very novels she wrote (if only she had looked there to begin with).

Karina holds a screenwriting degree from Vancouver Film School and a Bachelor of Journalism from TRU. Her travel writing, music reviews/interviews and photography have appeared in publications such as Consequence of Sound, Mxdwn and GoNomad Travel Guides. She currently lives on an island on the coast of British Columbia where she's preparing for the zombie apocalypse.

Blog Tour Stop: Confessions of An Alli Cat

Welcome to my stop on the Confessions of An Alli Cat blog tour hosted by CLP Blog Tours!
For my stop, I have a guest post from Courtney Cole along with an awesome excerpt. But first, a little about the book and the lovely author...
Goodreads Description:
Thirty-five year-old Allison “Alli” Lancaster has it all—a fabulous job, a beautiful 15 year-old daughter, a hilarious BFF and a gorgeous house with a pool and Jacuzzi in an exclusive Las Vegas neighborhood. What she doesn’t have is a husband, because she kicked her lousy, cheating ex to the curb nine months ago. Since then, Alli has paid her dues with seemingly endless self-improvement and seemingly endless mourning. Now she’s ready to move on and try new things.

Alli’s idea of “trying new things” is nothing like that devil-of-a-best-friend of hers. Somehow, Sara, the devil of a best friend, talks Alli into trying out a sex toy, sleeping with a younger man and letting a stranger in a lab jacket put hot wax on a place that should never, ever, ever see wax. And that’s only the beginning.

Alli never saw her life going quite like this. She also never thought she’d meet someone else who had the very real potential to change her life forever.

But she did.

Enter the new guy. He’s gorgeous, refined and mature. He’s also marriage material. But that poses a problem for Alli, who renounced the institution of marriage when she renounced her ex. What’s a girl to do?

They say that what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. But what the heck happens when you can’t leave Vegas? Well, you spin the wheel, of course. You play the game and let the chips fall where they may.

Alli just hopes she can find them all.

*******

Caution! Only read this book if you want to laugh and are not offended at adult themes and language. This is not a Young Adult book

As I mentioned above, for my stop, I have a guest post (a very special one btw) and a hilarious yet yummy excerpt.

Guest Post from the lovely Courtney Cole:

And now for the excerpt:
Holy freaking Hell. I’m internally having a panic attack because I’ve never been blind-folded before.  And here I am, letting a male prostitute blindfold me and lead me away to his sex nest.“Breathe, Allison,” the beautiful male prostitute tells me in my ear.  His voice is husky and rich, like hot caramel or warm maple syrup...or even better, like melted chocolate.  I swallow, instantly hungry and turned on at the same time.“Okay,” I agree, trying to force my traitorous lungs to fill with air. They are having none of it though and I gasp like an idiot, even though the blindfold is velvet and satin.  It’s hardly uncomfortable, but it still makes me anxious.   What is waiting for me that they need to blind me for?  Weird whips and chains?  Hand cuffs and ben wah balls? Holy freaking hell.I am practically panting when I hear a door being unlocked with the swipe of a card.  I hear it click and then a doorknob turning.  Then I am being gently pulled into the sex nest.Oh my god.Oh my god. What have I done?I’m in a freaking sex nest!I’m too old for this shit. Then the blindfold is taken off.And I am surrounded by luxury.   By heavy, expensive furniture. By thick and cushiony duvet covers and pillows.  By opulent decorations in crystal and mahogany.  By sheer normalcy in this room.  Sheer. Freaking. Normalcy.  I’m shocked. And I must look it, because Shade turns to me and laughs.“What?” he grins.  “Were you expecting something else?”“Yes,” I admit.  “I don’t know what.  But not this.”“Perhaps this?” Shade suggests and pushes a button on the wall.  A door on the ceiling slides silently open and a sex swing drops down, dangling at the edge of the bed. I gulp as I realize that it looks like a noose… a noose that I’m probably going to hang myself with.“Maybe,” I answer.I examine it closer.  It’s terrifying.  It looks like a contraption of torture, like something out of Morticia and Gomez Addams’ bedroom.  The harness is lined with cushiony velvet.  But it still doesn’t look comfortable. And maybe not even legal.  I gulp again.Shade laughs again. “Nervous?”I nod. “Don’t be,” he tells me, his voice buttery smooth.  He moves closer to me and I unconsciously step back.  He grins again. And I suddenly feel like a lion and its prey. “We don’t have to use it.  Yet.”

If that hasn't whet your appetite for this book, I don't know what else would. You should seriously consider getting this book. I adored this book just as I adore pretty much everything Courtney writes. That's the truth ;-). Check out my review HERE for this book.
