{Review} Unravel Me & Fracture Me by Tahereh Mafi

{Review} Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi

Goodreads Description:
tickticktickticktickit's almosttime for war.
Juliette has escaped to Omega Point. It is a place for people like her—people with gifts—and it is also the headquarters of the rebel resistance.
She's finally free from The Reestablishment, free from their plan to use her as a weapon, and free to love Adam. But Juliette will never be free from her lethal touch.
Or from Warner, who wants Juliette more than she ever thought possible.
In this exhilarating sequel to Shatter Me, Juliette has to make life-changing decisions between what she wants and what she thinks is right. Decisions that might involve choosing between her heart—and Adam's life.

My Review:
After reading Warner's POV in Destroy Me, I was a little wary on how this one was going to turn out. Warner brought on a new perspective that I didn't see coming. So I was pretty excited to see what Unravel Me had to offer.

I honestly had mixed feelings about this book. I liked it, but I didn't love it. Don't get me wrong, it was action packed and didn't really lag too much but the thing that made me not love it was that Juliette was sort of......whiny?

During most of the book, she goes inside herself and questions a lot of what she's doing. It gets a little annoying but I do get where she is coming from. I mean, she was incarcerated for most of her life and doesn't quite know how to act or react to things.

I did, however, enjoy when she would go all crazy powerful. It was pretty badass. Once she let go of her inner turmoil, she shined. I liked that aspect completely.

Kenji is the total saving grace in this entire novel. I loved him so hardcore in this book and he is quickly becoming one of my favorite characters. Yes, he is the comedy relief but he is also, in a weird way, Juliette's strength and pushes her in the right direction. He is too adorable.

Warner, as always, is a contradiction. You know what he feels and yet Juliette doesn't quite get it. I don't know if she plays stupid but she needs to wise up to the fact that Warner is sooooooo into her. Whenever I read something about him I melt a little more.

Adam......confuses me in this book. He was the nice guy in Shatter Me, but in this book, he is showing other signs of someone else. I feel like he doesn't quite get where Juliette is coming from in their "relationship". He doesn't understand that she can't hurt him and I get her point too. But Adam just seems so crazy in this book. I still love him because he tries so hard to be the knight in shining armor but his shine is wearing off a little bit. It's a really cool twist to the story that I wasn't expecting.

Mafi's writing style, as always, needs to be made clear. She writes unlike any other author. The poetic flow of her words brings everything to a new light and makes me feel completely different than what I expect. It's truly amazing.

{Review} Fracture Me by Taherah Mafi

Goodreads Description:

In this electrifying sixty-page companion novella to the New York Timesbestselling Shatter Me series, discover the fate of the Omega Point rebels as they go up against The Reestablishment. Set during and soon after the final moments of Unravel MeFracture Me is told from Adam's perspective.
As Omega Point prepares to launch an all-out assault on The Reestablishment soldiers stationed in Sector 45, Adam's focus couldn't be further from the upcoming battle. He's reeling from his breakup with Juliette, scared for his best friend's life, and as concerned as ever for his brother James's safety. And just as Adam begins to wonder if this life is really for him, the alarms sound. It's time for war.
On the battlefield, it seems like the odds are in their favor—but taking down Warner, Adam's newly discovered half brother, won't be that easy. The Reestablishment can't tolerate a rebellion, and they'll do anything to crush the resistance . . . including killing everyone Adam has ever cared about.
Fracture Me sets the stage for Ignite Me, the explosive finale in Tahereh Mafi's epic dystopian series. It's a novella not to be missed by fans who crave action-packed stories with tantalizing romance like Divergent by Veronica Roth, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, and Legend by Marie Lu

My Review:

Just as I liked seeing Warner's POV in Destroy Me, I liked reading from Adam's POV. It's a great perspective to see the thoughts and feelings of another character.

Also, just like in Destroy Me, I was surprised at what I saw in this novella. I was all prepared to sympathize with Adam on how heartbroken he was over Juliette and his love for her.

I was quite surprised to find that Adam wasn't all he's cracked up to be. His love for his brother was never in question. But his thoughts on Juliette and her feelings were another story. His disregard to Juliette's feelings was quite a blow.

After everything that happened to Omega Point at the end of Unravel Me, I was quite shocked that Juliette (his true love) wasn't his immediate thought. Yes, I get that his little brother is his first and foremost but Juliette didn't even come into the picture until Kenji brought her up. Kenji was the one who wanted to go and find her.

I have to say that Adam was the epitomy of hero in the first book but now....I'm not so sure what to really see him as. Ignite Me is sure to be a high octane book to tie up all loose ends that are so intertwined in the first 4. I'm excited. So very excited.

I only gave this 3 stars just because I had high hopes of Adam and although I still love him, I'm disappointed in his character. A little heartbroken really.

{Review} The Fault In Our Stars by John Green

{Review} The Fault In Our Stars by John Green

Goodreads Description:
Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel's story is about to be completely rewritten.

My Review:
Where do I start with this book? I will go with a few words that I think describe it pretty well: touching, heartfelt, heartbreaking, perspective changing.
I will say that I enjoyed this book. I truly did. I read this with my bestie April. We've both been wanting to read this for a while but never got around to it. Now that it's becoming a movie in the next month or so we thought we would speed it up on our TBR list. Once we saw the trailer for the movie, it had to be the next one in the long line of our "buddy read" list.
I'm not going to say I didn't know what to expect. Because, frankly, I knew what was going to happen more or less. But even though I had an idea of what to expect, I still was surprised. Granted, the main reason why I only gave this 4 out of 5 stars is that it seemed a bit too....intellectual for me. Now, I'm not saying I'm ignorant by any means when reading books but there were areas when I had to re-read the excerpt to understand it. I consider myself pretty well rounded in the whole reading category since I read quite a bit.
This book made me truly think. I try to read as objectively as I possibly can. This book made that very difficult for a few reasons:
1. I'm a mother. After voxing with April, I realized that I felt the same way as she did. I can put myself in her mother's shoes and read as a mom. Reading that way nearly tore my heart out. How do you deal with something like that? How? You're one and only child is sick and so close to death. How do you do  that? I have no idea what I would do if I were ever in that position. It gave me a new perspective on caregivers. Seriously. Mad props out to those who care for their sick loved ones. All around.
2. I'm a wife. I'm in love. Everyone should have the chance to love someone and have that person return it. Sick or not. To see that these two teenagers love so deeply touched my heart. You don't think about that kind of thing when you see someone with an oxygen tank rolling with them. They are teenagers in the book but their love for each other is so beyond their years because of where they've been. What they've been through.
3. I am a best friend. I have people that I consider my best friend and they (hopefully) consider me theirs. There is a point in TFIOS that I thoroughly agree with. When someone passes away, suddenly all these people coming out of the woodwork saying how sorry they were and what a great person they were. Did they really know them? Truly? If I found out one of my best friends was sick, I'd be there everyday. Just to be there. I thought that was awesome that Green touched on that.
This book completely changed my outlook on a few things. I am really glad that I read it and even though it wasn't my favorite, I will read it again. Maybe not soon because my heart is still a little raw, but I will. Not sure if I'll see the movie since movies tend to ruin the book. Or vice versa. The books are always better.
Hazel was fantastic. I loved her sense of humor and her views on life. She was very honest and very blunt. I'm sure she didn't want to hurt people's feelings with what she said but I enjoyed her honesty and her directness.
Augustus was...just....*sigh*. I thought he was so very perfect. He really made the book for me. His overwhelming love for Hazel was so touching.
Actually their love for each other was completely perfect. I don't know how to describe it.
I can't really say too much because I don't do spoilers.
John Green's words just jump of the page and are written extremely well. There wasn't any fluff. Everything was just great. I felt this book was very real and very beautiful.
"It seemed like forever ago, like we'd had this brief but still infinite forever. Some infinities are bigger than other infinities.
I strongly encourage you to pick this book up and read it. It really is a good book with a great story.

ABOUT CROSS COUNTRY CHRISTMAS:
With the holiday season upon her, Jamie Foster is once again stressed about making her yearly visit back home to Woodfalls, still single. Fate intervenes in the form of Grant Johnson, a boy she grew up with, who catches the same flight while returning home from a business trip.
When a malfunction sends their plane crashing down on the runway upon takeoff, Jamie and Grant decide to rent a car and make the nine-hundred-mile drive home together. Ironically for them, anything that can go wrong does as they face one hysterical hurdle after another.
Christmas may finally bring Jamie the gift of love she has always wanted if she and Grant can manage to overcome a few obstacles along the way. Ho-ho-ho!

What did I think?
I thought this was so freaking adorable! I always love the kind of books where the two main characters have grown up together. Those are my favorite types actually.

I've always been a fan of Tiffany King. She really has a way with words and knows how to tear out your heart or to warm it up.

If you're looking for a quick, warm, fuzzy-feeling type of read, this novella is it! This one is so perfect for the upcoming season. Full of that warm goodness that is the essence of Christmas in my opinion.

Jamie was an adorable character and one I can relate to in some ways. She left her small town to look for her soulmate all the while making a name for herself with her food blog. She knows there is someone out there for her and she wants to have that forever kind of love. It's so innocent and sweet. I loved her.

Grant was hotness in form I swear. I'm a sucker for dark hair and blue eyes. I don't know what it is about that but man oh man does Tiffany work it well. Not only that but he just is adorable anyways.

I truly enjoyed this novella and will be scooping it up on the release day. I loved the cute story and can't wait to see more from Tiffany. She's a talented storyteller. This is certainly going to be a hoilday favorite for me!

{Blog Tour & Giveaway} Wish I May by Lexi Ryan

WISH I MAY Synopsis:
I grew up wishing on stars.

My father taught me to believe…in destiny, in magic, in happily ever after. Dreams were my scripture and the starry night sky was my temple. Then Mom stopped believing, left him, and took us with her. At the age of sixteen, I cashed in my dreams to pay the rent, pawned my destiny to keep my sisters together.

Now, seven years later, I’m returning home, grieving the death of my mother, and settling my sisters back into the life Mom threw away. I never intended to stay. I don’t want to deal with my father, who is so invested in the spiritual world he forgets the physical. I don’t want to face William Bailey, whose eyes remind me of the girl I was, the things I’ve done, and the future I lost.

This would all be easier if Will hated me. As it is, I have to hold my secrets close so they won’t hurt him more than they’ve already hurt me. But he wants to be in my life. He wants what I can’t bring myself to confess I sold. He wants me.

I find myself looking to my stars again...wondering if I dare one more wish.

What did I think?

Wow. I am actually blown away right now by this book. I have no idea where to start. I loved it. I really, thoroughly, loved this book.

I picked this tour because I always like to try new authors that are coming up. I saw the synopsis on this and I actually thought that this would be a cute little love story about high school sweethearts. I never thought it would have so much emotion, drama and heart. So much heart.

I'll start of like I always do and go into the characters...

Cally. Oh my what a tortured character. I felt for her from the very beginning. I loved her strength and courages throughout this entire book. She never once though of herself but always put others first. And she still got crap for it. Drove me crazy about the peopple being judgmental in this but I suppose that's what comes with small towns where everyone knows everyone right? But this girl gave up everything to make a better place for her sisters. I think she is a very strong character and has so much to give.

William. Oh my hotness overload. He sounds like a creamboat...err dreamboat. I can see why Cally wants him as well as pretty much every other girl in the book. I want him and I'm married! Ha! But what makes him even better? Underneath all that hot manliness is a true heart of gold only wanting love and a family. He's in head over heels with Cally.I can't believe how much he is willing to give just to have what he wants and he never really asks for anything in return. He is such a great character and one of the sexiest I've read.

All the other characters (sisters, dad, friends, etc...) play perfect supporting roles in this book. Every one of them is special. I just have to say a little side note that Gabby tore my heart out. Oh how I wanted to snuggle her up so close! The friends were the perfect buffer and great comic relief.

I didn't really think too much about the steamy sex scenes being in this book. I didn't even think there would be. To my surprise and delight there were. Oh my goodness there were some sexy scenes in here. *fans self* I liked them all. William and Cally had some of the best sex scenes I've read. I'm not much for erotica but I won't snub sexy time. When it's written well, it gets you all hot and bothered in the right way. And believe me when I say that Lexi Ryan did and exquisite job writing these scenes. Bravo my lady!!

Now for the story...

Like I mentioned earlier, I wasn't quite sure what I was expecting when I picked this up. I thought it would be an easy read and to sort of....breeze through it I guess. You get so many books that pretty much are about the same type of thing and get predictable.

I can say with the ut,ost confidence that this book did not fit that mold. At all. This book was so well written that everything flowed together so beautifully I had tears brimming in my eyes and my heart felt the twinges of pain the same time Cally would.

This book is surely one of my tops so far this year and I don't see it coming down. I never expected this book to have so much heart and warmth. It also has some sad parts with darkness in there. I love the variety and the unpredictableness that is this book.

Overall I really enjoyed this book. I will for sure be looking up more of Lexi Ryan's books and see what more she has to offer. This was my first book of hers I've ever read and I am now a fan.

{Review} For Everly by Raine Thoms

{Review}

For Everly by Raine Thomas

Goodreads Description:
**Mature Content Warning** This is a New Adult novel recommended for ages 17+ due to language, sexual content, and mature subject matter.
Determined to overcome a dark and tragic past, college student Everly Wallace is only months away from earning her degree in physical therapy. She’s consumed with school, caring for her ailing grandfather, and figuring out how to pay the next bill. The last thing she wants is a relationship, but it just might be the one thing she needs.
Major League pitcher Cole Parker hasn’t fought for anything in his life. He went from a privileged upbringing to a multimillion dollar All-Star career. But when his pitching shoulder starts to give him trouble at only twenty-four years old, he faces the possibility of his injury becoming public knowledge and costing him everything.
In a desperate bid to save his career, Cole decides to hire someone to treat his injury, someone who will keep things off the record and out of the media. He finds the perfect solution in Everly. As mysterious as she is beautiful, she provides an enticing distraction from his pain. Soon, physical therapy is the last thing on his mind.
When an act of betrayal brings the truths they both fear to light, Cole will have to fight for the first time in his life…not just for his career, but for Everly’s love.

Why did I read this?
Honestly, I first saw this on Facebook as being on sale. Then when i saw that Raine was the author, I immediately snatched it up. I love Raine. She's such a sweetheart and has become a good twitter buddy of mine.

What did I think?
Well, I really enjoyed reading it. Seriously. I'm not a big fan of baseball myself but this book had me wanting to get into it.

I'll start off by talking about Everly. By the way I adore that name. If I would've seen that name before I saw Ember, I might have named my daughter Everly. ;-)

Everly is such a beautiful character. She is so incredibly strong and someone I can really admire. For what has happened in her life, she should hold herself pretty high. I know I do. Everly is going to be one of those characters that stick with me for a while. She's not one of those that once you read about her in a book, you move on to the next and forget ya know? I really loved her and her personality was awesome. I will say that I did get frustrated with her a few times when she would think certain things but that's with almost every character you read. Then I think about what she's been through and I understand.

Now...Cole. I will admit it took me a little bit to warm up. But that's only because he was used to getting his way. You know what I mean? Yes he's hot and I think he knew it. But what made me fall in love with him was his heart. Underneath it all he really was a super nice, sweet guy and would do anything for anybody. Plus with the way he was with the kids? *heart melts*

For the story, I really enjoyed every minute of it. I couldn't stop once I started. The storay flowed so beautifully and Raine did an amazing job. I seriously was guessing til the end. Although I had my suspicions, I was off at least a little bit. It was an easy read and I probably could've read this in a day if it wasn't for my 4 month old, I'd would've read it faster lol. But it didn't stop me from reading on my breaks at work and staying up late on my kindle.

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed the book. Everything was very well written and the sex scenes were done completely tastefully. I still got all tingly from those scenes though. (ha!) I think Raine did a wonderful job in the book. I would recommend this to anybody.

This book has a whole lotta heart and soul that will get you feeling warm and fuzzy. My favorite kind.

No Attachments by Tiffany King Release Day Launch Review & Giveaway

Welcome to the No Attachments by Tiffany King Release Day launch!!!
I'm very excited to talk about this book because I adored it!!!
Here is some info on the book:

Synopsis:
Ashton Garrison walked away from a privileged life in order to hide from the one thing she's not willing to face. She knows she left behind a trail of pain, but in the long run, her betrayal will hurt less than the truth. She now has one goal: Live life to the fullest with no regrets and no attachments. She has high hopes that a move to new surroundings will provide the escape she desires, but what Ashton doesn't count on is how fate always seems to find a way to screw up any good plan. Sometimes, when love comes knocking, the pull is too strong not to answer. Suddenly, what she thought she wanted to escape from is what Ashton now wants more than anything.
Love can come when you least expect it. The question is: If the odds are stacked against you, how far are you willing to go for the one you love?
Nathan Lockton has one mission: find his target and complete the task he was hired to do—no attachments and no emotion necessary. He's done it over and over again. What he thought was a typical lost-and-found job has turned into a life examining moment as Nathan is forced to deal with something he has always ignored--his feelings. Now faced with a decision, Nathan must choose to either follow his heart or complete the job.

What did I think?
I'm already a fan of Tiffany King's books. She has a beautiful way of writing and she writes stories that are so full of emotion.

This one is no different. I went into this book expecting to find a cute love story with a happy ending. What I didn't expect was to read this in one sitting and cry. LOL Tiffany does that to a person.

Don't get me wrong, this is a cute love story. But there is plenty of heartache and angst added to the mix. That's what I love about Tiffany's books. Her stories have depth and meaning to them.

I'll start off by saying I adored Ash and Nathan to the core. Ash is such a strong girl and yet very vulnerable. I loved the way that King kept you in the dark the whole time trying to figure out what she was really running from. Ash was such an adorable person and I would have loved to meet her in person.

Now, Nathan. Oh my where do I start? Nathan is the perfect man to have. Hot, deep voice and so incredibly comforting. I wanted to bottle him up and take him home. Seriously. Every girl needs a man like him.

As I mentioned before, I read this in a single sitting. Yes, it was an easy read but that's not why I read it in one sitting. This book had me addicted to it. I could not stop. I didn't want to stop. The book was engaging and written beautifully.

Suddenly Royal by Nichole Chase Release Day Launch & Giveaway

Welcome to my stop for the Suddenly Royal by Nichole Chase. I am very excited to take part of this release day launch.
Blurb:
Samantha Rousseau is used to getting her hands dirty. Working toward a master’s degree in wildlife biology while helping take care of her sick father, she has no time for celebrity gossip, designer clothes, or lazy vacations. So when a duchess from the small country of Lilaria invites her to dinner, Samantha assumes it’s to discuss a donation for the program. The truth will change the course of her life in ways she never dreamed.
Alex D’Lynsal is trying to keep his name clean. As crown prince of Lilaria, he’s had his share of scandalous headlines, but the latest pictures have sent him packing to America and forced him to swear off women—especially women in the public eye. That is, until he meets Samantha Rousseau. She’s stubborn, feisty, and incredibly sexy. Not to mention heiress to an estate in his country, which makes her everyone’s front-page news.
While Sam tries to navigate the new world of politics and wealth, she will also have to dodge her growing feelings for Alex. Giving in to them means more than just falling in love; it would mean accepting the weight of an entire country on her shoulders.
What did I think?
I was so interested in reading this book. I thought it would be such a cute love story and a quick read. What I wasn't expecting was the emotional deepness that came with it.

On the outside, this is like The Princess Diaries but the adult version. LOL It sort of was but so much more.
I loved Samantha's character from the get go. She knew what she wanted, she took care of her own and didn't take any crap from anybody. She was truly someone to really look up to.

Alex...Sa-woon. He was very drool worthy and so very understanding. I love, love LOVED him. He has to be one of my favorite male characters to date. He has a great heart and he didn't mind showing how he truly felt.

When Samantha and Alex first meet, you know there are sparks and I adore the fact that Samantha was so shy and unused to having the attention of a man. Their interactions had me chuckling quite a bit.

In this book, Samantha gets the shocker of her life when she learns she is royalty from a different country. How does someone really respond to that? I'd flip out. LOL But Samantha handles it pretty well considering everything she has to go through.

Some parts did remind me of the movie The Princess Diaries. Only because it is the same kind of concept, but, I reiterate that this has a story of it's own that sets it apart. This is more mature and the emotional content was fantastic.

All throughout this transformation that Sam goes through, she has other things that weigh on her mind. She has her father, her friends, and her job.

I feel that Nichole did an amazing job writing this and is a great story teller. Everything that I look for in a book was there. To the biggest extent. I loved the romance, the heartbreak and the humor. I thoroughly enjoyed this book to the fullest and I will recommend this to anyone who loves a well written romance.

About Nichole:
Nichole Chase is a daydreamer. No, really, just ask any of the math teachers that had the misfortune of seeing her name appear on their class schedule.
For years she has had story lines and characters begging for attention, but she resolutely pushed them aside to focus on more normal (read, boring) jobs.

Well, no longer! She is currently heeding the voices in her head and frantically writing their stories. Ms. Chase is the author of the Dark Betrayal Trilogy, Flukes, and Suddenly Royal (including several short stories).

Nichole resides in South Georgia with her husband, energetic daughter, dog, tortoise, and two cats. When not devouring novels by the dozens, you may find her writing, painting, crafting, or chasing her daughter around the house while making monster noises.

It's a HUGE Giveaway!! To celebrate SUDDENLY ROYAL by Nichole Chase releasing, she's doing a huge Pay It Forward giveaway!

Here's what Nichole had to say about the giveaway:

"To celebrate the official release of Suddenly Royal, I wanted to do something special. I could have done another giveaway, but that just didn’t seem like enough. This year, I’ve seen a lot of sad things, but I’ve also seen some amazing, spectacular people step forward to help. In a time of uncertainty and confusion, I feel like it’s important to celebrate those that are doing good and making a difference around them. So, this is what I want to do. I want to treat someone like a princess for a day. Really pamper them and make them feel special and loved.

But how to choose? Instead of doing a random drawing, I want you—my readers—to nominate someone deserving. Leave a comment on this post describing your deserving nominee and I will choose five people. Then you guys get to vote on who is the most deserving. All five of those people will receive a small package from me—but the one person with the most votes will receive the grand prize!

What is the grand prize, you ask? Well, let me tell you. We’re pulling out all the stops!
The grand prize winner will receive:
Signed swag from Suddenly Royal
A signed paperback copy of Suddenly Royal
A $100 Amazon or Barnes and Noble Gift Certificate-I’m donating to this too! You do the Ulta and I’ll do the bookstore
A handmade necklace by moi!
A $100 ULTA gift certificate!
And what princess is complete without a crown and wand? Those will be provided for their special day as well!

Let’s give a deserving woman (or man!) the pampering they deserve! Leave a comment with your nominee’s name, why they deserve to be Princess for a Day, and a way for me to contact you. (I may need more information from you for the next round. If I can’t get in touch with you, I may have to move on to one of the other stories.)

Let’s get started! We’ll be accepting entries until 11:59pm on Saturday, April 27th. KP Simmon of InkSlinger PR and I will be choosing the top 5 stories on Sunday and posting the open voting on Tuesday, April 30th. We’ll keep voting open until Friday, May 3rd, at 12:00am and we’ll announce the winner on Sunday, May 5th! I’m a firm believer in passing things forward and I’ve been very lucky this year. Hopefully we can bring a smile to someone that needs it!"
